In 2023, although the overall download of the global app market showed a 1% decrease year-on-year, the revenue saw a 15% increase, a 4 percentile growth compared to 2022. The download mix for all sub-genres remained stable.
The United States and the Middle East stood out as key growth areas. In the U.S., a 4% increase in download was driven primarily by strong growth in Utility & Productivity and Books. The Middle East saw a 6% increase in download, with Utility & Productivity, Entertainment, and Social being the main growth drivers.
The Russian market in particular has emerged as a hotbed for developers in Utility & Productivity. While the download growth is only 0.8% in 2023, Utility & Productivity accounted for a whopping 75% of the overall market.
Books, while a smaller genre, has shown rapid growth, especially in the U.S., Russia, Southeast Asia, and South America. In the U.S., Books had the highest eCPM across all genres, with interstitial ads reaching $41.45.
In-stream ad is one of the favorite ad types of video developers. It fits naturally into the video scenario with a high eCPM due to the brand budgets. It can reach over $20 in the US and Southeast Asia, and exceeds $10 in the Middle East and South America. It is worth further exploration and attention by video developers.
